Southbridge Cogeneration Project
The Southbridge Cogeneration Project was to rebuild an old power plant with new technology. The original power plant building was built in 1910 and all exterior architectural perspectives had to remain untouched. The plant was operating two steam turbines (5MW and 3 MW) that had to be maintained during construction. The project was completed in 12 mos. The facility has the capability of producing 6.5 MW of electrical generation, 60,000 pounds/hour of steam and 800 tons of chilled water. The primary engines utilized in this plant are five (5) 1.3 MW Deutz gas fired reciprocating engines. The plant has demonstrated a thermal efficiency of 70.5%.
